Emergency aid entry
547 U.S. 398 (2006)
Quick Rule
Officers may enter a home without a warrant when objective facts support an immediate need to help someone seriously injured or threatened with serious injury.
Field Reminder
Document what you saw or heard and why waiting would endanger someone.
Important Limits
The entry must be objectively reasonable and tied to the emergency. This is not general authority to enter a home for every welfare check.
